I make several different kinds of cookies this time of the year. Everything from the traditional sugar cookie cut-outs to eggnog cookies, pumpkin cookies, and cookies from other parts of the world. I have a picture from a few years ago of my now 9 year old sitting in a chair in front of the oven Christmas Eve night watching Santa’s cookies baking fresh. It was so cute watching him!

Ok, this might seem a bit twisted, but I like making weird christmas cookies. Cookies that you wouldn’t see in the store. Last year I made an evil santa claus, a huge snowman cookie wearing an argyle sweater, and a bunch of other different cookies. It is fun and my whole family always gets a big laugh out of them.

When I was teaching full-time, I would host a Cookie Exchange after school. The entire staff was invited to participate. My favorite cookie that I prepared for the exchange was a chocolate biscotti. It was time-consuming to make, but everyone was very impressed with the delicious cookies. We did this right before the Christmas holidays so everyone had a very nice assortment of cookies to serve to their family and guests. If you have never participated in a cookie exchange, I encourage you to do so. It is a very fun activity for a group of friends and/or neighbors and a good excuse for a party! Happy holidays, one and all!

Aweseom! I am having a cookie swap in a couple of weeks and these would be great! My mom always used to roll out sugar cookie dough and we would use Christmas cookie cutters on the dough. After baking, we decorated them with TONS of icing, sprinkles, and candies. I always looked forward to this and will continue the tradition with my family. :)

I love making cutout cookies. I use the same cookie cutters that my mom used when I was little. I use her recipe too. It has sour cream in it so the cookies stay nice and soft. Then I put icing on them and then colored sugars and sprinkles!

I rarely make cookies-all that sugar leaves me fat and depressed but this year my grandchildren are coming to visit. Money is tight due to the economy so we are trying to figure out things to do rather than more stuff-making cookies sounds likea fun and memorable activity so this would help so much.
