For Your St. Patrick’s Day Party: How to Make an Irish Coffee

When I worked as an Administrative Assistant at an upscale retail chain in New York City, my office manager was from Ireland. She took St. Patrick’s Day very seriously and on March 17th of each year would have a small party for our office complete with Irish Coffee. Before these little office parties, I just thought Irish Coffee meant a shot of whiskey poured into a cup of coffee. Boy, was I mistaken.

For future reference, here’s how to make an Irish Coffee:

In a glass coffee mug or wine glass, place a teaspoon of brown sugar on the bottom. Cover with a shot of Irish Whiskey and stir to dissolve the sugar. Fill mug three quarters of the way with coffee and top with fresh cream.

That’s easy right? But by fresh cream I don’t mean whipped cream or cool whip, a true Irishman would laugh at the suggestion. Fresh cream is freshly whipped whipping cream, and it makes all the difference.

If you’re having a St. Patrick’s Party be sure to serve Irish Coffee to your guests. It wouldn’t be March 17th without it!
