mardi gras beads

We’re coming up upon Mardi Gras and while the big celebration is in New Orleans, you don’t have to fly out to the big easy to have a Mardi Gras party of your own.

The Mardi Gras theme is a great one for dinner parties and festive occasions for friends and family. For people who love to entertain a Mardi Gras party is a great way to let your hair down, for at least one night.

Invitations

Send themed invitations one month ahead of time and request your guests dress in their most vibrant purple green and gold. The louder the better!

Your Guests

Small masks and wild hats will get your guests in the spirit. Greet them at the door with plenty of Mardi Gras beads for all.

Decorate!

Purple, green and gold are the official colors of Mardi Gras. Decorate using purple, gold and/or green candles, vibrant purple table linens with gold napkins and yellow and purple flowers. Metallic gold, purple and green balloons will determine the festive and frivolous mood of the party. If it’s not too messy, consider confetti.

Food

What do they serve in New Orleans? Gumbo, giant shrimp, jambalaya and anything Creole, Cajun or blackened. A variety of pastries will do just fine for dessert.

Favors

Festive beads and colorful hats make fun favors.

Budget party tips: For the hostess on the budget, ask guests to each bring a dish and assign out appetizers, main courses, desserts and beverages. Try shopping for decorations at the dollar store or a thrift shop to save money.
