It’s Not Too Early to Plan Your Easter Egg Hunt
Easter’s early this year. For those of you who celebrate, it’s going to fall on Sunday, March 23rd. It’s not too late to plan your Easter party. My family likes to gather at my sister’s house each year. Of course it’s all about family, but also food and fun. For the little kids we also have an Easter egg hunt outside.
While the kids are waiting to hunt their eggs, we have them the paper bags they’ll use to carry their eggs and candy. Last year I bought a kit - small shopping bags on which the kids could glue bunny ears, eyes and more. They loved it. Regular shopping bags or Easter bags will do just as well.
Because it’s outside, it’s best to use the reusable plastic eggs. I buy a bag or two after Easter each year because they’re on sale for a quarter or 50 cents! My sister also has a huge bag in her attic and she brings them for the hunt. My sisters and I also set aside some of the candy we bought for Easter to use. Because I only have one child, I’m not going to use all the candy that comes in one bag. So I use some for my son’s basket and the rest gets donated for the hunt. Last year I also brought over some of those miniature goody-bag Playdohs.
Even though our Easter egg hunt is for the littlest kids, we get the teens and tweens to fill the eggs and hide them outside. They don’t really hide them, mind you. They just place them on different areas in my sister’s back yard.
Besides being a fun activity, it also keeps the kids occupied so the grownups can cook or mingle. Since the bigger kids are overseeing the festivities, they help to make sure all the smaller kids get a bag filled with goodies. After the bags are filled and eggs are all found, the kids empty their loot into their candy bags and we put the Easter eggs away until next year.
Good times!
